Lee Ming Han (15) 1st entry

There are both pros and cons about the CCT surveillance. The advantages include, thieves who are having the thought of stealing valuable items or breaking the law, will consider the consequences before they start stealing. Loan sharks coming by to collect debts and spray paint will not do anything unlawful, as they will be afraid of being captured on the CCTVs and get recognised by the police, and thus the public will be safe from the threat of loan sharks. CCT surveillance are also hidden on the roads as a speeding camera, to zoom in and take a snapshot of the license plate of the vehicle that is speeding, with this picture the police is able to track down the reckless driver and fine him for his selfish act. With all these CCTVs installed, people living in Singapore will feel much more safe and have a higher sense of security.

With so many advantages, there are also disadvantages to installing CCTVs. Disadvantages include, with more and more CCTVs installed, some Singaporeans will feel very uneasy as their privacy is at question. Tourists visiting Singapore will then have the thought that the crime rate in Singapore is extremely high due to the many CCTVs installed to track down every single movement. With this in mind, tourists might give a second thought in coming to Singapore for a holiday.

I personally think that Singapore should install more CCT surveillance around Singapore, even though there are disadvantages. With more CCT surveillance installed, we Singaporeans can sleep soundly every night, knowing that there are people out there looking out for us. Also, with more surveillance camera installed, there will be a decrease in the number of crimes committed, due to the fact that anyone who attempts to execute any unlawful act will think twice before they act. I think that Singapore should step up the security and install more of these CCTV Cameras in the economic downturn, even if the CCT surveillance are not cheap. Singapore should sacrifice this little sum of money in place for the whole Nation's safety.
