The advantages of CCTV surveillance is it watches over the town or city and criminals can be caught easily.The CCTV provides identification of criminals and evidence on what they did.If the criminal knows that there are CCTV cameras at certain location they will try not to commit a crime there which therefore decreases the crime rate.
The disadvantages of CCTV surveillance is some people might not be trying to commit a crime but they look suspicious so they might be mistaken for criminals.
I don't think that there is a need for singapore to step up on CCTV surveillance as Singapore is a small country and the crime rate is not as bad as New York.Some cameras can be placed around banks and important places.
