I feel that Surveillance Cameras are effective in solving criminal cases.
For example, two foreigners once stole diamonds from a jewellery store. They had managed to escape from the shopping mall but the police were able to identify the culprits from the surveillance cameras' footage in the store. The thieves were apprehended when they were found in the airport while attempting to escape and the diamonds were then recovered and returned to the Jeweller.
We should encourage retailers to use surveillance cameras in their stores so that potential offenders will be intimidated and be discouraged to steal.

However, there will be a lack of privacy towards those people who are living around the area. As they would always think twice before doing their things. This could affect the number of people living in the area to decrease, due to the lack of privacy.
